What a Certified Diverse Supplier Means for Your Fleet Contract

If you manage purchasing for an agency, a university, a hospital system, or a larger company, you have probably been asked about supplier diversity spend. If you manage a fleet, you have probably never thought about it while booking vehicle cleaning. This is a short explanation of why those two things are worth connecting.

The short version

Many public and institutional buyers, and a growing number of private companies, set goals for how much they spend with certified diverse suppliers. Those goals are usually tracked and reported. Meeting them is often harder than it sounds, not because buyers are unwilling but because finding certified vendors who do the specific work needed, at the quality needed, takes effort.

Vehicle detailing is a category where that gap shows up. It is a recurring, budgeted service that almost every fleet buys. If the vendor providing it happens to be certified, the spend counts. If not, it does not.

• BBB accredited with an A+ rating, and a member of the Minnesota Black Chamber of Commerce.

The practical effect is that a procurement team can verify us through channels they already use, rather than taking a vendor’s word for it.

Why this matters more for services than for goods

Supplier diversity programs are often easier to satisfy on paper with one-off purchases, which is exactly why recurring service contracts are valuable to them. A fleet detailing agreement is predictable, repeating spend in a category that is easy to defend. For a procurement officer trying to move a number, a standing contract is worth more than an occasional purchase of the same total value.

What it does not mean

It should not mean paying more, and we would encourage you not to accept that trade. Certification says who owns a company. It says nothing about whether the work is good.

Evaluate us the way you would evaluate anyone: ask what the schedule looks like, ask what happens when a vehicle needs something extra, ask for references from fleets like yours, and look at the vehicles we already service. If the work does not hold up, the certification should not save us.

It also does not mean the process is complicated. Adding us is the same as adding any vendor, and we can supply certification documentation for your file up front so nothing stalls in approvals later.

The case is straightforward:

1. The fleet needs cleaning regardless. This is budgeted work, not new spend.
2. The vendor is certified and verifiable, so the spend counts toward diversity goals.
3. The service is on site, so there is no downtime cost hidden behind the invoice.
4. The vendor is local to the Twin Cities metro, which makes scheduling and accountability simpler than a regional or national contract.
